We love Art! Our friendly group explores the work of an artist each month. We welcome new members who may or may not know lots about art… our group is about exploring, discovering and enjoying art in a relaxed and sociable way.  The choice of each artist is made through suggestions and by group members and covers a wide timespan of art and artists, from 13^th century through to today.

Some recent artists have included David Hockney, Rembrandt, John Singer Sargent and JMW Turner etc., as well as less-well known but equally wonderful artists, such as Artemisia Gentileschi and Elisabeth Vigée Le Brun.

We meet on the fourth Thursday of each month in Wem Town Hall (there is a small charge – currently £2 per person – to cover the room hire cost). Our room has a large screen TV on the wall and with a laptop connected, we view hi-res images of a broad selection of each artist’s works, plus videos/clips from art historians who help to bring the works and the artists alive for us. We have lively discussions - everyone’s views are very welcome, and equally welcome are members who just want to look and enjoy.

Each month in advance, a “Notes & Links” sheet about each artist is produced and emailed to all members. This contains a summary biography and a selection of interesting/useful web links so members can do a little “pre-meeting exploring” if they wish… but of course, it is not compulsory!

Our lively group has been growing but still has lots of room for new members – you don’t need to be any sort of expert or even knowledgeable about art – just interested and curious is fine too.
